If you are new to IGreviews I use the third publication date in a given month to talk about my substack. This gives me a chance to preview upcoming essays or explain any changes. Today, I want to talk about this summer's film study class.
This year's topic is “Visual Storytelling with Alfred Hitchcock.” The syllabus will be published on July 28th. The class will run four to six weeks; that is, two or three essays published every other Thursday.
If you’d like to participate, it’s easy! Get the syllabus when it becomes available on the 28th. Watch one or more of the films listed on the syllabus and write your own essay (or essays) on how Hitchcock uses visuals to communicate plot or delineate character. Then, send me your essay at InvertedGentlemanEditing@gmail.com or post it in the comments. Finally, we’ll discuss the essays either privately through emails or publicly in the comments.
The syllabus will have more detailed instructions as well as a helpful guide to cinematography and editing, so be sure to read it. If you’d like, you may review the syllabus from last summer to better understand what to expect.
There are no hard rules here. If you don’t like the topic, for example, then choose your own. But I do ask that you stick to the films listed in the syllabus so that everyone participating will be familiar with the movies being discussed.
Before I go, my review of San Fransicko: Why Progressives Ruin Cities by Michael Shellenberger will be posted on July 14th. Other reviews that’ll post after the film class concludes are The Children’s Blizzard (Benjamin), The War on the West (Murray) and many more. I am also working on original fiction to post either late this year or early next.
Thanks for reading Inverted Gentleman Reviews. If you like this content, please share it with a friend. With your help my dream to be a professional critic can come true.
See you in two weeks!
