I think AI is a great tool as a broken mirror for humans. It does exactly what we ask it to do, but even that interpretation will always be flawed. However, with strict enough rules, it can do some amazing things and utilizing it to better society and ourselves seems like a good idea!

But also these were horrifying and I choked on my coffee a bit. Thank you~

I heard someone say that a good use case for AI image engines would be for an artist to use the AI like a sketchpad, trying out multiple iterations of an idea, tweaking the composition little by little, and then using one of the AI images as the basis for a finished artwork. That being said, it does seem that the AI is better at producing a general vibe than any actual coherent imagery. Your readers might want to see some of the results of my AI experimentations, for instance here where I try to get the AI to create an image of Sailor Moon making a salad: https://www.ruins.blog/p/ai-symbol-art

Because the AI favors atmosphere over cohesion, I've been having success getting it to produce imagery for a music album I'm working on. When I enter the track titles as prompts I get consistently good results. I've also noticed it does very well creating imagery akin to that of the surrealists (Max Ernst in particular).

I believe Shad discussed how artists might use it as a tool just as they might use Photoshop or some other such thing. Besides attempting to recreate a human's art, I also tried making book covers for a couple of my novel projects. A few of them looked good but not accurate to my vision. I think you're right about the "vibe." It would be interesting to reverse the process: use an AI image to prompt a story.
