I didn't pick up on that, but much of the history/politics were over my head. I liked the military stuff because long ago I wrote a sci-fi thriller about soldiers in a war, yada, yada. I could have used some of that information then.
It was pretty early in the book, and it wasn't a plot point (more of an offhand comment), and I don't have the book at hand to get the exact details (I borrowed it from the library), but it definitely had the aroma of "damned Republicans", to the point where I just stopped reading, as I refuse to give money (or my time) to people who hate me.
I started reading this, and got disgusted with the cartoon MAGA antics. Brad clearly bought all-in to the J6 fraud, and it leaked into the story.
I thought it was an own-goal, as I'm not sure how many of his readers are Democrats.
