I suspect they needed the title to match O'Reilly's other "Killing XXX" books (Killing Lincoln, Killing Kennedy, etc.). There's apparently 6 or 7 titles in the series, at least at my library.
There's 13 in the killing series. This is the first one I've read. I only think the subtitle is misleading. The main "killing" title is fine.
