A excellent counterpoint to all the reviews which were mostly gushing about how great the film was. Thanks for writing! I have never read the book or watched the 1984 adaptation, so I was expecting to be bewildered by what I'd heard was a complicated plot. The whole "messiah" theme was lost on me, but for what it was, it was a fun movie experience - like a summer popcorn-and-air conditioning film but released in the fall. You are right about the splendid visuals, and also about the underwhelming appearance of the sandworms at the end (maybe it was a young one that chased Paul and Jessica?), and, wow, that "desert power" line needed some rewrites. But still, a fun time at the theater.

I am attempting to teach film appreciation by highlighting some of the best examples of it, hence the many gushy reviews. Remember, though, I was harsh on Cy Macho.

I am planning to post an "updates" article at the end of the year. IGreviews is constantly evolving. I am still figuring out what this is supposed to be and where I am going. I'll give you a preview of the "updates." I am looking into music reviews, something I have done only a few times. Also, more fiction reviews like Tangleroot Palace. I have been reading a lot of non-fic lately because so much new fiction bores me. I am planning another film study series much like my Western one.

I hope all of you will stay tuned.

I loved the movie. Dune has many deep human, emotional, psychological and spiritual themes.

Any chance that you will read and review Andy Weir's "Project Hail Mary"?

I hope to. My library's audiobook app doesn't have it. I'll need to get a hard copy of the book and read it the old fashioned way - like a neanderthal! Maybe late summer...
